What is a bar bending schedule (BBS)?

A bar bending schedule lists every reinforcement bar in a member — diameter, shape, number, cutting length — and computes the steel weight. It is used to order steel, control wastage and bill reinforcement. Weight per metre = D²/162 (D in mm).

What to include

How to prepare it (step by step)

  1. Fill the project, member and drawing reference.
  2. For each bar: enter diameter, shape, number and cutting length.
  3. Total length and steel weight calculate automatically (D²/162).
  4. Sum the total weight to order steel and control wastage.
  5. Reconcile against actual steel consumed via material reconciliation.
Cutting BBS by hand for every member?

Manual BBS drifts from the drawing and the steel actually consumed. ProjectsNext ties reinforcement quantities to BOQ, procurement and material reconciliation so steel ordering and wastage stay in control.

Frequently asked questions

What is bar bending schedule format?
A schedule listing each reinforcement bar's diameter, shape, number and length, with steel weight computed per bar.
How is steel weight calculated in BBS?
Unit weight = D²/162 kg/m (D in mm); total weight = Nos × cutting length × unit weight.
How do I make a BBS in Excel?
Download the template, enter diameter, nos and cutting length; total length and weight calculate automatically.
Is the BBS template free?
Yes — Excel and PDF, free and editable, no sign-up.
